Zero Kieran McKenna Celtic Discussions as Bellamy Commits to Welsh National Team

Both are being considered with the manager's job at the Premiership title holders following Brendan Rodgers' departure on the start of the week.

The Manager's Position on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "an enormous soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Portman Road in recent years and guided the team to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they won just a handful of victories last campaign as they were relegated back to the Championship and they currently sit 12th in England's second tier.

"There have been such discussions," the English capital native ex- Northern Ireland young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is this week.

"I possess a special position here at a special club. And we're at a crucial stage of the campaign. Everything external hasn't touched my radar."

Context and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "I don't think all people has to go around and announce what they were, but naturally it's a massive football club."

McKenna agreed to a fresh four-year contract in last year and was questioned about his alleged £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I'll be Town's coach forever. I understand that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as while I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh striker is minded to complete the ongoing global tournament campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job.

Wales are presently in third place in their qualifying group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in November would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, thanks to a successful European competition performance, even if they fail to finish as Group J second place.

Considering his present position, the Wales manager, whose agreement concludes after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the minimum.
