The President Calls Families of Attacked Guard Personnel to the White House

President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the executive mansion.

He added that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.

Details on the Heartbreaking Incident

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.

Vigils across the state have been held in their remembrance.

Presidential Offer

The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump told reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”

Public Support

Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid public safety in the capital.

“She was the kind of student that educators desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her alma mater, told the media. “She was caring, caring and always ready to support those in need.”

Legal Measures and Policy Changes

Officials have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy caused the administration to pause asylum applications and cease issuing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.

Condition of Wolfe

Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Morrisey stated on television.

Attorney general Bondi informed a news show that she planned to meet with the family.

Memory of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the military.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he addressed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
