New York Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities shared video stills Monday of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
