Lindsey Vonn Confident of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following claiming a top-three finish for the fourth instance in five World Cup competitions.

The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Racing in the iconic venue for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she made a stunning return in late 2024 following a significant orthopedic procedure.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are timely.

She has one gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She presently enjoys a 69-point lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup campaign includes a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
