JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Aims to Address the Series' Most Significant Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an original film. Instead, the recent film from the JuJutsu Kaisen action franchise serves as a collection of the series' second installment merged with the first two episodes of its next season, which kicks off the Culling Games narrative from the manga series. This positions Execution, which recently received a fresh preview, the quickest way to see the start of the next season ahead of its January 2026 premiere. The feature launches in Japan on Nov. 7, and in North America on Dec. 5.

The Culling Games Plot

In the Culling Games storyline, Elite sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu makes his entrance into the television series and is assigned by jujutsu officials to execute his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight unfolds for the first time on the silver screen, and if the animation team at the production house have something as special as installments 40 and 41 prepared for fans this end-of-year period, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may turn out to be the present that fans have anticipated.

The Thunderclap Debate

"Thunderclap episodes" from season 2 is frequently praised as a top-tier scene in animated series lore, despite all the controversy in 2023 when the series first premiered. It was claimed that the creators were suffering from crunch conditions to the extent, and the broadcast edition that aired at the time was unfinished and reportedly not what the animators originally planned.

The Epic Battle

The scene features a much-hyped confrontation between two powerful sorcerers, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It includes experimental animation, masterful camera work, and dynamic fight choreography. A subsequent home video edition gave the animators a chance to add additional scenes to flesh out the battle. So it was plausible Execution could enhance the fight further. However, viewing the latest preview, it's unclear if that battle has received any additional treatment. It'd be a shame if it was not, because a sequence that grand has to be experienced on the largest display with the finest quality available.

Season Two Success

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become 2024's anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were aired consecutively, it was the focus of attention for an extended period in the anime community. Fans were aware of the issues behind the scenes, which made them appreciate what they witnessed even more. People anxiously checked to see if the home release, made available on March 18, would include new footage to the sequence or to see if it was polished at all, and were elated to see just that, alongside color corrections, more motion, and revised visual style.

The Film's Potential

But the physical release can only improve what has already been presented in the television version, whereas the movie has the chance to fully realize the scene with additional alterations and new animations entirely.

A Magnum Opus

As it stands, these episodes represent the magnum opus of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by the animation team, especially considering the issues they encountered at the time. It's garnered the attention of anime fans all over the planet, and the Culling Games is a highly awaited story of next year. If the studio wants to kick off the year perfectly, run back the series' best moment once again in theaters with the ultimate presentation we've witnessed to date.
