Air travel Delays in America Set to Intensify, Transport Secretary Warns

American flight controllers are increasingly looking for additional employment and reporting ill, as they continue to work without pay during the federal closure, the transportation secretary has stated.

"These professionals are wearing thin," Sean Duffy informed Fox News on Sunday, as certain aircraft were halted on the Californian coast due to personnel deficits.

Following the federal closure on 1 October, air traffic controllers, who are considered essential workers, were instructed to continue performing their duties uncompensated.

But a number have been absent, causing terminals to halt or reduce their plane traffic, which has exacerbated delays due to climate and other issues.

More than three thousand American flights were postponed on the weekend, and Duffy stated he anticipates the circumstances to grow worse.

"I am seeing the pressure," Duffy said in an interview on Sunday Morning Futures, noting that he had met with multiple professionals to listen to their concerns directly.

"They're taking second jobs, they're out there looking, 'Can I drive Uber, can I secure another source of income to make ends meet?'" he continued.

The secretary added that on the previous day 22 alerts at airfields said travel would be delayed due to a lack of employees - among the peak after the closure started.

The American federal closure reached its 26th day on Sunday, rendering it the second-longest halt in history.

He has repeatedly warned that flight authorities would reduce the quantity of aircraft in the air if there is a shortage of safety personnel.

In his conversation, he declined to respond straightforwardly when questioned if it was secure to travel by air in the United States, and instead issued a personal plea to controllers.

"I require my staff concentrating on the airspace, not on the finances at their households," Duffy said.

On that day, certain flights were grounded at Los Angeles International Airport due to staffing shortages, leading to interruption at the fifth most active airport in the country and one of the busiest in the world, as well as other flights extending upward to the metropolis of Oakland, California.

The FAA notice went out at 08:45 in the morning on the weekend. Numerous trips were operating normally by midday.

Flights at Newark Airport, though, were postponed an average of 82 minutes due to staffing shortages, and the authority indicated DFW, the second most active airport in the country, could encounter problems from low staffing later in the day.

The FAA advised travelers in California to check with airlines about updated departure times.

The issue precedes Game 3 of the championship, which is scheduled in LA on Monday night, and approximately four weeks before the Thanksgiving holiday, among the peak periods to travel by air in the US.

Pressure on US air travel helped end a federal closure in two thousand nineteen. Back then, the halt had reached its fifth week and affected airline operations, including pilot training.

It led several flight controllers to remain absent on the same day on 25 January 2019, briefly halting movement at New York's LaGuardia airport.

That same day, the former president, who at the period was in his first term as president, agreed to sign a short-term spending bill, effectively ending the government shutdown after thirty-five days.
